Trump announced a sharp increase in tariffs on automobile imports from the EU
US President Donald Trump announced an increase in tariffs on cars and trucks imported from the European Union to 25% as early as next week.
He wrote about this on Truth Social.
In his post, Trump accused the European Union of failing to fulfill its obligations under the trade agreement with the United States.
"I am pleased to announce that next week I will increase tariffs on cars and trucks imported from the EU into the United States, as the European Union is not fully complying with the agreed-upon trade agreement. Tariffs will be raised to 25%," he wrote.
At the same time, Trump emphasized that cars manufactured on US territory will not be subject to tariffs.
He also noted that new auto plants are being built in the country with investments exceeding $100 billion, calling it a record in the history of the industry.
"Many car and truck factories are currently being built, with more than $100 billion invested in them — this is a record in the history of car and truck manufacturing. These factories, staffed by American workers, will soon open — nothing like this has ever happened in America before!" the American leader emphasized.
