The Federal Reserve System (FRS) of the United States reduced the federal funds rate by 25 basis points, to 3.5-3.75% per annum.

Report informs about this with reference to the statement of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) of the regulator.

The indicator became the lowest since November 2022. Following the two-day meeting (December 8-9), the Fed also raised the country's GDP growth forecast for 2025 from 1.6 to 1.7%.

At the previous meeting, the Fed reduced the rate to 3.75–4% per annum. At the September meeting, the regulator lowered it for the first time in 2025 to 4–4.25% per annum, and before that, it had left the rate unchanged at 4.25–4.5% per annum for five consecutive meetings.

The next Fed meeting is scheduled for January 27–28, 2026.
