Syrian President assassination attempt foiled
Syrian authorities foiled two "Islamic State" plots aimed at assassinating the country's president Ahmed al-Sharaa.
As BAKU.WS reports, Reuters was told about this by a source from the Syrian security service and an unnamed official from Middle Eastern countries.
According to Reuters, the plots were uncovered over the past few months. In one case, the assassination was allegedly planned at a "pre-announced engagement" that Ahmed al-Sharaa was supposed to attend. No other details were provided.
On November 10, Ahmed al-Sharaa arrived in Washington, where he will meet with US President Donald Trump for the first time. According to NBC News sources, during the visit he will announce Syria's forces joining the US coalition to fight ISIS. Syrian officials anonymously told Reuters that Syrian authorities have been coordinating their actions in this direction with the American military for several months, but it is expected that the official joining will be an important step in developing relations between the countries.
