RS virus affecting young children has spread in Russia
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a seasonal disease that causes respiratory tract infections. Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation Andrey Osipov, in a conversation with the publication "Moscow Region Today," spoke about the increase in infection cases, reports argumenti.ru.
According to him, an increase in the number of cases is observed in different regions of Russia, including Novosibirsk, Rostov region, and the Moscow region. The virus is transmitted through airborne droplets and contact via hands and surfaces.
RSV occurs in all age groups, however, children in their first year of life are the most vulnerable. The disease can progress in mild, moderate, and severe forms. Symptoms are similar to other respiratory infections: sore throat, runny nose, weakness, and in cases of bronchial and bronchiolar involvement – severe cough and elevated temperature.
