The world was predicted to lose a valuable resource
Amber is a non-renewable resource that may disappear in 100 years. This was stated by the deputy general director for jewelry production and commercial activities of the Kaliningrad Amber Combine, Maya Skvortsova. She was quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to her, at the current extraction rate of 600 tons per year, the surveyed amber reserves in Russia and worldwide will last approximately a century. Skvortsova stated that exploration for new deposits is constantly ongoing, however, it is possible that these searches may not be successful.
"Today we are trying our best to preserve amber in works of art, interior items, and in private collections of artists who are now very actively acquiring amber. If no new deposits are discovered, our works of art will remain for centuries," she added.
