Operations Suspended at Iraq's Largest Gas Field
World 0

The operator of the largest gas field Khor Mor in northern Iraq — UAE-based company Dana Gas — has suspended operations at its main production facilities due to security threats and rising regional tensions.

This was reported by Al Jazeera, citing a company representative.

It is noted that the production shutdown has led to a reduction in electricity generation capacity in the region by 2,500 MW. The Khor Mor field, which holds significant gas reserves, is the main source of fuel for electricity generation in the region.

Earlier, crude oil loading at all Iraqi terminals was suspended after a drone struck an oil tanker in Basra.

Khor Mor is one of the largest and richest oil and natural gas fields in Iraqi Kurdistan. It is located in the Sulaymaniyah Governorate, 180 km southeast of Erbil. The developer is the Pearl Petroleum consortium (key participants being Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum). Geological gas reserves are estimated at more than 300 billion cubic meters.
