Latvia declared readiness to deploy nuclear weapons in the country
Latvia is ready to deploy nuclear weapons if NATO makes such a decision.
As reported by LRT, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs stated this at a briefing in Vilnius after negotiations with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda.
"If the decision to deploy nuclear weapons is made in the national interest or as part of a collective NATO decision, it will be implemented," Rinkēvičs said, adding that "NATO's nuclear deterrence is defensive in nature, unlike Russian nuclear rhetoric."
He also noted that, unlike Lithuania, Latvia's constitution has no restrictions on the deployment of nuclear weapons.
