China and Russia vetoed a UN Security Council resolution on the Strait of Hormuz
The resolution on the Strait of Hormuz prepared by Bahrain was not adopted in the UN Security Council vote.
As reported by TASS, 11 members of the Security Council voted in favor of the resolution, Russia and China voted against, and Pakistan and Colombia abstained. The resolution was not adopted due to the votes against by permanent members of the Security Council.
The resolution calls on countries with interests in commercial routes through this waterway to coordinate defensive efforts to ensure navigational safety and the openness of the strait. The document authorizes the use of all necessary defensive means proportionate to the circumstances, including vessel escort.
The resolution demands that Iran immediately cease attacks on commercial vessels and any obstacles to freedom of passage. The text emphasizes compliance with international maritime law.
