Even infrequent exercise can significantly extend life if you follow the recommended weekly physical activity guidelines. Researchers came to an unexpected conclusion after analyzing data from more than 93,000 participants. The results of the scientific work were published on the official portal of the American Heart Association.

During the experiment, scientists divided participants into three categories: "weekend athletes" who complete the entire weekly norm of 150 minutes in 1-2 training sessions; people who distribute the same workload evenly throughout the week; and those who do not reach the recommended minimum of physical activity.

The results of the study were astonishing. The "weekend athletes" showed mortality reduction rates that even surpassed the group with regular training. Their risk of death from all causes decreased by an impressive 32 percent, the probability of fatal outcomes from cardiovascular diseases decreased by 31 percent, and from oncological diseases - by 21 percent. Meanwhile, for people who train regularly throughout the week, these indicators were 26, 24, and 13 percent respectively.

The scientific community was surprised by the obtained data, as it was traditionally believed that gradual and regular physical activity should yield better results. However, the study proved that the key factor is the total volume of weekly activity - at least 150 minutes, regardless of how these minutes are distributed throughout the week.
