For smoking in which places can you be fined in Azerbaijan?

In recent days, the number of fines for smoking in public places has increased. Some citizens are dissatisfied with this situation. They note that they are being fined for smoking everywhere.

In which places is smoking prohibited by law? What fines await those who smoke in prohibited places?

As reported by BAKU.WS, in connection with this, lawyer Turan Abdullazade told Oxu.Az that according to the law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On restricting the use of tobacco products", in order to limit the use of tobacco products and reduce the harmful effects of tobacco smoke on the environment, smoking is prohibited in the following places:

- educational and childcare institutions and their territories;

- medical and medical rehabilitation institutions and their territories;

- buildings and facilities where sports competitions and other mass events are held;

- public catering facilities, including restaurants, cafes, bars;

- commercial facilities;

- household facilities;

- social service institutions;

- accommodation facilities;

- cultural facilities (theaters, cinemas, museums, etc.);

- children's playgrounds;

- above-ground and underground pedestrian crossings;

- vehicles (buses, cars, railway, air transport, etc.);

- gas stations and other hazardous facilities;

- common areas in apartment buildings.

Various fines are applied to persons who violate these prohibitions. According to Article 212 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the fines for smoking are as follows:

- for smoking cigarettes - 30 manats;

- for throwing tobacco waste into the environment - 50 manats;

- for smoking on air transport - 100 manats;

- for smoking in undesignated places on railway transport - 40 manats;

- for smoking in city, intercity buses and taxis - 40-50 manats;

- for smoking on sea and river transport - 40 manats.

In addition, the law requires the presence of signs indicating the prohibition of smoking in the specified places, regardless of the form of ownership and organizational-legal form.
