A 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck northeastern Japan.
This is reported with reference to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre.
According to the information, the tremors were recorded at 23:18 local time (18:18 Baku time) 173 km east of the city of Morioka (Iwate Prefecture, Honshu Island).
The epicenter was at a depth of 7 km, and no reports of casualties or damage have been received so far.
No tsunami warning was issued.
