A prominence 80 times larger than Earth has detached from the Sun
In terms of size, this prominence was second only to the legendary eruption of 1946, known as Grand Daddy, which is still considered the most powerful such event in the history of observations.
As reported by BAKU.WS, this was announced by specialists from the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The source of the eruption was located on the far side of the solar disk, near the star's north pole, which significantly complicated its observation.
Three days ago, a large plasma formation had already erupted from the same area. Its collision with the cosmic object 3I/ATLAS is expected on Friday. NASA published images of this body and presented the results of spectroscopic analysis, which ruled out its man-made origin.
Scientists suggest that both plasma ejections could have had the same source - presumably, the energy was released by active region 4274.
When this region was facing Earth, it generated the two most powerful flares of 2025, which were assigned levels X5.1 and X4.0.
