Therapist explained when water becomes dangerous for the body

Excessive water consumption can be dangerous for a person, warned therapist Olga Semenova. She named the volume of liquid that leads to negative health consequences in a conversation with NEWS.ru.
"With excessive fluid consumption - more than four to five liters per day - pathological conditions can occur, for example hyponatremia - this is a decrease in sodium levels in the blood due to the washing out of electrolytes. Symptoms of this condition include: nausea, seizures, confusion," Semenova cautioned.
Excessive drinking is especially dangerous for people with kidney diseases, heart failure, and endocrinological pathologies such as hypothyroidism or syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone. With these diseases, fluid is poorly excreted from the body, is retained, causes edema and worsening of the patient's condition, Semenova explained.
At the same time, the doctor emphasized that water overdose is almost impossible if you drink it gradually rather than all at once.
