The world's tallest bridge has been put into operation

In the Chinese province of Guizhou, after three years of construction, a bridge across the Huajiang Grand Canyon has been put into operation - now officially the highest in the world at 625 meters above the Beipan River. This is 2 times higher than the Eiffel Tower and 9 times higher than the famous "Golden Gate" in San Francisco!
From garage to giant: how China built a record-breaking bridge
Construction of the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge began in 2022 and was completed by September 2025 - just three years, which is an engineering feat in itself. The total length of the structure is 2890 meters, with a suspended part of 1420 meters, making it the longest suspension bridge in mountainous terrain. The central span is 10 meters longer than the British Humber - a record from 1998. The Chinese designed and built it with their own resources, using steel beams and advanced technologies: the final tests in August withstood 96 trucks with a total weight of 3300 tons!
The bridge reduces the journey between the sides of the canyon from 2 hours to 2 minutes, becoming part of a 150 km highway. Imagine: previously, tourists and residents of Guizhou struggled on narrow mountain roads, but now - a smooth span over the abyss. The first drone footage shows cars racing against the backdrop of misty cliffs - a spectacle for adrenaline fans!
Why is Guizhou the bridge capital of the planet?
Guizhou province is a real paradise for engineers: mountains, gorges, and rivers have made it a leader in bridge construction. There are more than 30,000 bridges here, and half of the top 100 highest in the world are Chinese! The previous record holder - the Beipanjiang Bridge (565 meters) - also crosses the Beipan River, just 60 km from the new one. It has been in the Guinness Book of Records since 2016. Third place is another Guizhou giant. By 2030, there will be over 1000 bridges higher than 100 meters here - half of the global top 50!
This is not just infrastructure: bridges change lives. In Guizhou, where 90% of the territory is mountains, they connect villages, accelerate trade and tourism. Economists predict: the new bridge will add 10% to the region's GDP through logistics.
