The doctor revealed which pills should not be split in half
Improperly splitting tablets can not only reduce the effectiveness of treatment but also create a risk of overdose. Pharmaceutical specialists warn about this.
As reported by BAKU.WS citing "Gazeta.Ru," tablets should only be split if they have a special score line or if such an option is indicated by the manufacturer in the instructions. According to Russian pharmacist Karina Titova, medications without a score line may distribute the active ingredient unevenly, putting the patient at risk of receiving an incorrect dose.
Experts note that certain cardiac and antiepileptic medications are particularly sensitive to dosage accuracy. Even a slight deviation can affect the safety and outcome of therapy.
Specialists also remind that most capsules should not be opened unless this is explicitly permitted by the instructions. In addition, storing split tablets without consulting a doctor is not advisable, since after the coating is damaged, some medications deteriorate more quickly when exposed to moisture and air.
