Scientists were able to defeat a dangerous virus that everyone feared

American scientists from the University of Texas have achieved significant progress in treating Ebola fever. For the first time, they have managed to completely cure monkeys of this dangerous virus using an oral medication called "Obeldesivir".
The research results were published in the journal Science Advances.
Ebola fever is a deadly viral disease first recorded in 1976. It is transmitted through contact with biological fluids and causes massive bleeding, organ failure, and has a high mortality rate. Existing vaccines and intravenous treatment methods are limited due to high costs, cold storage requirements, and difficulties with administration in poor regions.
"Obeldesivir" is an oral analog of "Remdesivir," originally developed to combat COVID-19. It suppresses a key enzyme necessary for virus replication and is effective against various Ebola strains.
The studies were conducted on rhesus macaques and Java macaques. The drug provided 100% survival rate in the former and 80% in the latter. In addition to eliminating the virus from the blood, "Obeldesivir" promoted immune response formation without organ damage, the scientists emphasized.
