Scientists have discovered a danger that could destroy life on Earth

An international team of astronomers from India, Spain, the USA, and other countries has made a sensational discovery - in the spiral galaxy 2MASX J23453268−0449256, located a billion light-years from Earth, powerful radio jets 6 million light-years long have been detected. Such a phenomenon was previously observed only in elliptical galaxies, which calls into question modern concepts of galaxy formation and development.
Of particular concern is the fact that a similar process could occur in the center of the Milky Way. The main black hole of our galaxy - Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*) - remains inactive for now, but if it begins to consume matter, this could lead to a powerful ejection of radio jets. According to scientists, such an event would have a devastating impact on Earth and the Solar System: increased radiation levels, DNA damage, mutations, and destruction of the ozone layer could threaten the existence of life on our planet.
The study, published in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society (MNRAS), also emphasizes the role of dark matter in preserving the spiral structure of the galaxy, despite the extreme activity of its black hole. This fact is forcing scientists to reconsider theories of galaxy evolution and the influence of dark matter on their stability.
Although the probability of Sagittarius A* becoming active in the near future is small, researchers warn: if this happens, the consequences for Earth and the entire Solar System would be catastrophic.
