It became known who should avoid losing weight with intermittent fasting

People with weakened immune systems, eating disorders, type 1 diabetes, as well as women during pregnancy and breastfeeding are prohibited from losing weight through intermittent fasting. This was stated by dietitian Dani Mattis from the United States of America in an interview with WellnessPulse.
Intermittent fasting is a type of diet in which food intake is limited to a specific time interval, measured in hours or days. The most popular type of intermittent fasting is considered to be the sixteen-eight method. This approach involves completely abstaining from food for sixteen consecutive hours each day.
Scientific research has shown that eating at strictly defined times helps reduce the frequency of snacking, which, in turn, helps reduce body weight. In addition, this method of eating contributes to the depletion of glycogen carbohydrate stores in the body - this happens after about twelve hours of fasting - which forces the body to use fat tissue as an energy source. Dr. Dani Mattis also noted that intermittent fasting increases cell sensitivity to the hormone insulin, thereby reducing the risk of developing diabetes.
However, despite the obvious benefits, such a diet is not suitable for everyone. People with type 1 diabetes are not recommended to practice intermittent fasting, as prolonged abstinence from food can lead to a significant decrease in blood sugar levels. This condition may be accompanied by feelings of weakness, rapid fatigue, and dizziness. Intermittent fasting is also contraindicated for people suffering from eating disorders, as strict restrictions can exacerbate an unhealthy relationship with food.
The dietitian also emphasized that people with weakened immunity should not put their health at risk by choosing this method of weight loss. For full recovery of the body, a regular intake of nutrients from food is necessary. Pregnant women, as well as breastfeeding women, should also be cautious about intermittent fasting. Research results have shown that prolonged fasting can lead to increased levels of the stress hormone - cortisol. This, in turn, can provoke hormonal changes and affect reproductive function, including the menstrual cycle.
