They are talking about microplastics - tiny plastic particles that have already penetrated every corner of Earth, from ocean depths to mountain peaks. According to a new study published in Science Advances, microplastics not only pollute the environment but also have a catastrophic impact on ecosystems and human health.

Researchers have found that microplastics accumulate in soil, water, and air, disrupting natural processes in nature. It enters the organisms of animals, fish, and birds, causing disruptions in their vital functions, and reaches humans through the food chain. Scientists note that plastic particles can contain toxic substances that negatively affect the immune system, reproductive function, and even cause oncological diseases.

According to scientists, microplastic is a silent killer that acts imperceptibly but with enormous destructive power.

Of particular concern is the fact that microplastics are practically impossible to remove from the environment. Its sources are not only large plastic waste but also synthetic fabrics, car tires, and cosmetics. About 8 million tons of plastic enter the world's oceans annually, and this number continues to grow.

Experts call for immediate action: tightening control over plastic production and disposal, developing recycling technologies, and searching for alternative materials. However, as scientists emphasize, without global awareness of the problem and participation of every person, it will be impossible to cope with this threat.
