Doctor warned about unexpected danger of coffee from coffee machines

Coffee made in a coffee machine may contain increased amounts of harmful substances that contribute to the growth of "bad" cholesterol in the blood. Therapist Maria Tolstova told "Gazeta.Ru" about this in an interview.
According to the specialist, the results of numerous studies have shown that coffee from coffee machines, unlike whole bean and instant coffee, contains diterpenes - cafestol and kahweol. These substances increase the level of low-density lipoproteins, which leads to an increase in "harmful" cholesterol.
This impact, Tolstova explained, can lead to the formation of cholesterol plaques, development of atherosclerosis, and increased risk of ischemic heart disease, stroke, and hypertension.
The reason is that not all coffee machines are able to filter the beverage properly, and some harmful compounds end up in the finished coffee.
Additionally, the doctor recommended being more cautious about consuming instant coffee. It contains acrylamide - a substance formed during the roasting of beans. Its excess can contribute to the development of oncological diseases and damage to the nervous system. Moreover, the level of acrylamide in instant coffee is twice as high as in natural whole bean coffee.
"If you prefer instant coffee, it's important to exercise moderation and choose a quality product that is properly prepared and filtered. In this case, the beverage will not harm your health," the doctor emphasized.
