Doctor named a product that eliminates the smell of old age

Elderly people are recommended to eat shiitake mushrooms, button mushrooms, and oyster mushrooms, said dietitian and endocrinologist Ekaterina Shirshova. The specialist discussed the beneficial properties of these products and why they eliminate the "smell of old age" in a conversation with KP.RU.
She noted that these mushrooms consist mainly of water and contain a small amount of quality protein - about two to three grams per 100 grams of fresh product. "This is much easier to digest than our traditional mushrooms - repositories of protein: birch boletes, aspen mushrooms, and porcini. These forest dwellers are indeed heavier and contain dense fiber and fat-soluble substances that can excessively burden the digestion of an elderly person," explained Shirshova.
The doctor called mushrooms one of the best sources of ergothioneine, a powerful antioxidant that actively protects cells from lipid peroxidation - sources of the so-called "smell of old age." Ergothioneine also improves skin condition, and the spermidine contained in mushrooms increases the ability of cells to process damaged components, maintain organ functions, and slow down age-related changes.
