Why does your breath smell so bad in the morning and how to get rid of it forever

Waking up in the morning with bad breath is a problem familiar to most people. Even with good oral care, fresh breath is often absent in the mornings.
The reason for this is quite simple: during sleep, saliva production decreases, and it's saliva that helps clean the oral cavity of bacteria. When there's less of it, microorganisms begin to actively multiply in the mouth, breaking down food residues and mucosal cells. In the process, sulfur compounds are released, and these create that morning smell.
Breathing through the mouth exacerbates the problem, especially if the nose is congested. Dryness in the oral cavity becomes an ideal environment for bacteria. Food eaten the night before also has an influence: spicy seasonings, garlic, onions, and alcohol can retain their smell even into the next morning. If hygiene before bed was superficial, this gives bacteria even more freedom. Cavities, gum inflammation, or the presence of tartar can also cause bad breath.
To reduce or completely eliminate morning breath, it's important to pay attention to evening oral care. Teeth should be brushed unhurriedly and thoroughly, not forgetting the tongue, where particularly many microbes accumulate. Using dental floss helps clean the spaces between teeth, and a mild mouthwash refreshes and reduces bacteria levels. It's beneficial to sleep in a room with normal air humidity and try to breathe through the nose, especially if mouth breathing has become a habit. A glass of water before bed and in the morning helps start the process of cleaning the oral cavity and reduce dryness.
If the smell persists during the day despite all measures, this may indicate internal problems. Sometimes the cause lies in diseases of the stomach, liver, nasopharynx, or chronic inflammation of the tonsils. In such cases, it's important to consult a specialist and undergo diagnostics.
Bad breath in the morning is a common phenomenon, but it can be dealt with. A little attentiveness, regular care, and concern for health make breath fresh and mornings more pleasant.
