Eid al-Adha is approaching: sacrificial animals are becoming more expensive

Only a few days remain until the main Islamic holiday of Gurban Bayram. The sale of sacrificial animals is already actively underway in the capital and regions of the country, however, this year buyers are in for an unpleasant surprise.
Compared to last year, there is a noticeable increase in the prices of sacrificial animals. Traders in Baku report that buyer activity remains low so far, although some citizens are already making advance orders, striving to secure the best selection.
The highest demand is for lambs weighing from 14 to 15 kilograms, which are delivered from various regions of Azerbaijan - Salyan, Beylagan, and Bilasuvar. The cost of a kilogram of live weight of a lamb is now about 20 manats. Interestingly, buyers try to avoid lambs weighing 12-13 kg, as according to Islamic canons, they do not meet the requirements for sacrifice.
The picture is similar in the regions of Azerbaijan. Sellers from Ismayilli note increased interest in lambs weighing 13-15 kg, which are offered at a price of 270-300 manats per head. According to them, compared to last year, prices have increased by 15-20 manats. Buyers prefer either to slaughter the animal themselves or transport it alive.
In Jalilabad, the price jump was even more noticeable - the cost of sacrificial animals compared to last year increased by 20-30 manats. Despite this, sellers remain optimistic and expect an increase in buying activity in the last days before the holiday.
