Critical shallowing of the Caspian Sea: ecologists sound the alarm

In recent months, the shallowing of the Caspian Sea has become especially noticeable in the Astara region.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Xəzər TV channel, the water recession is most evident in the territory of the "Boulevard" complex.
Environmentalists note that the lowest level of the Caspian Sea in the last 100 years was recorded in 1977, when it was 29 m below the world ocean level. The maximum level was observed in 1995 - minus 26 m. Since then, this indicator has been steadily declining.
Local residents report that the shallowing has led to the formation of small islands 150 m from the shore, and has also affected the marine flora and fauna. In addition, it has affected wells in yards, where the water level has also begun to decrease.
