Border guards operation in the Caspian Sea: one smuggler killed, another wounded

Border guards prevented an attempt by an organized group of smugglers to transport a large batch of drugs across the Caspian Sea to the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the State Border Service (SBS), on May 1 at 21:55, the Main Command Control Center of the SBS Coast Guard detected an unknown fast-moving vessel 0.3 miles (approximately 400 m - ed.) from the shore in the direction of the Salyan raid of the Caspian Sea.
A border patrol ship began pursuit, and coastal units were notified to block the coastline.
During the pursuit and operational search activities in the southeastern part of the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea at 22:40, the border patrol ship issued a "Stop" command using light and sound signals, and also fired warning shots.
Since the violators ignored the lawful demands of the border guards and tried to leave the territorial waters of Azerbaijan, weapons were used in accordance with the requirements of the AR law "On the State Border". As a result, both border violators were wounded.
The ship's crew took urgent measures to send the wounded border violators to a specialized medical facility. Despite the efforts of doctors, it was not possible to save the life of one of the violators. The second continues treatment in a modern hospital.
During the inspection of the "liner" type high-speed vessel, 33 kg 75 g of marijuana, 2 Garmin GPS navigators, and 1 THURAYA satellite phone were found and seized.
As a result of the preliminary investigation, it was established that the border violators are citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran - Garanijat Nuri Gurban Mohammed (born 1985) (wounded) and Umahammadi Behsad Saleh (born 1990) (deceased).
Investigative and operational activities on this fact continue.
