Azerbaijan punishes person responsible for student's death

27-year-old Jalal Jafarov convicted for severe traffic accident in Mingachevir.

According to Qafqazinfo, the Mingachevir City Court found him guilty under Articles 263.2 (violation of traffic rules resulting in death by negligence) and 264 (leaving the scene of an accident) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

In December 2023, a Mercedes-Benz driven by Jafarov hit two pedestrians on Muslim Magomayev Street - a third-year student of Mingachevir College, Nazli Huseynova (born 2005), and her classmate Imamrza Sadigzade. The girl died at the scene, and the driver fled.

It is noted that Jafarov previously worked in the police force but resigned voluntarily shortly before the accident.

The court sentenced him to 5 years imprisonment in a settlement-type facility and banned him from driving for 3 years.
