Are snakes spotted in the Caspian Sea dangerous?

In recent days, videos showing a snake swimming in the Caspian Sea have appeared on social media.
The appearance of the reptile near the shore has caused concern among residents and vacationers.
Doctor of Philosophy in Biology, Associate Professor at the Institute of Zoology of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (NASA) Tavakkul Iskenderov explained that water snakes are often found in winding, rocky, craggy, and reed-covered areas of the Caspian coast.
"These snakes come ashore to lay eggs. The water snake is not dangerous to humans and is not venomous. To avoid encountering snakes on the beach, it is recommended to avoid winding, rocky, and craggy areas," the specialist advised.
