11-year-old boy shot his father who took away his gadget before bedtime
In the USA, an 11-year-old boy shot his own father after he took away his Nintendo Switch gaming console.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to The Guardian, the tragedy occurred on January 13 in the city of Duncannon, Pennsylvania. Around 3:20 at night, police arrived at a house on South Market Street after a report of a man showing no signs of life.
In the bedroom, law enforcement officers discovered the body of 42-year-old Douglas Dietz with a gunshot wound to the head. Nearby was his 11-year-old son, who had recently celebrated his birthday. According to the investigation, the child became angry after his father sent him to bed and took away his gaming console.
When his parents fell asleep, the boy tried to find the Nintendo Switch in the dresser but instead came across the key to the gun safe. He opened the safe, loaded the pistol, approached the bed, and shot his father at point-blank range.
Responding to investigators' questions, the child stated that he was "furious" and didn't think about the consequences of his actions.
Family neighbor Jesse Weldon said he only knew them superficially but was shocked by what happened. According to him, the family kept to themselves but gave the impression of being quite well-adjusted.
It is specified that the boy was denied release on bail. The court hearing for the case is scheduled for January 22.
