Transport Alliance: Three Central Asian Countries Join Forces

Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan confirmed their intention to develop cooperation in key areas such as energy, transport, and logistics.

This is stated in the joint statement of the presidents of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, adopted following the trilateral summit in Turkmenbashi on August 22.

The parties noted the importance of developing cooperation in energy and emphasized the special significance of interaction in this area, according to the document published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

"Considering the great potential in the field of transport and logistics, as well as in order to utilize the transit potential of the three countries, the parties emphasized the importance of enhancing multimodal transportation in the direction of Uzbekistan - Turkmenistan - Azerbaijan and back. In this regard, the significance of the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of transport and logistics cooperation signed by the competent authorities of the three countries was noted," the statement says.

It is also noted that the leaders welcome the creation of a joint working group to discuss issues of developing transport and communication infrastructure, coordinating transport operations, and simplifying the conditions for their organization.

The statement mentions the importance of developing air connections, business, and tourism between the countries, which will contribute to increasing cargo and passenger flows.
