Sheikh ul-Islam: Those who advocate for the hijab today were silent when Armenians were destroying mosques
Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board (CMB), Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade expressed his position regarding the discussions that have unfolded around the introduction of a unified dress code in schools.
As reported by Modern.az, in an interview with Real TV, he sharply criticized those who present the issue as a "hijab ban."
Allahshukur Pashazade emphasized that the word "hijab" is entirely absent from the decision that sparked the controversy:
"They link this to the hijab. In fact, I want to emphasize once again that this word is absent from the approved document. It concerns school uniforms. However, what is happening is being deliberately tied to the hijab in order to influence other countries, the public, and Muslims. Such a formulation is being used with a specific intent," he stated with conviction.
According to the CMB chairman, certain individuals are manipulating the religious feelings of citizens, trying to turn them against the state.
"There are people who abuse the faith and spiritual values of the people. They use them, provoking confrontation with the state. I trust my state and am confident that it will successfully resolve this issue," he noted.
The religious leader stated that the debates around the hijab topic are being exploited to artificially stir up discontent with the authorities.
"It creates the impression that they want to dig an abyss between the state and believers. But there is none. Someone is trying to create a problem out of nothing. Our believers are people who sincerely love their country, support statehood, and stand on its side," Allahshukur Pashazade stated.
The CMB chairman specifically addressed the hypocrisy of those who did not react to the destruction of mosques during the occupation period but today raise the hijab issue. He recalled that he personally sent photographs of the Aghdam Mosque, in which Armenian occupiers kept livestock, around the world, including to Muslim states.
"The Armenians came, destroyed everything, demolished mosques. But these people remained silent, did not raise their voices. So many mosques were destroyed, and they provided absolutely no support. Yet today, by putting the hijab topic on the agenda, they wish to provoke protests against the state," he added.
Allahshukur Pashazade pointed out that specific individuals stand behind such attempts and addressed them with an appeal: "Let them not trouble themselves in vain, let them not try to sow confrontation. They will achieve absolutely nothing. I am firmly convinced of this."
The CMB chairman also noted the existence of forces that cannot come to terms with Azerbaijan's achievements and the peaceful way of life of its citizens. He emphasized his absolute confidence in the country's further development.
Allahshukur Pashazade called on believers to be patient, once again reminding them of their strong commitment to the state and its unwavering foundations.
The Sheikhulislam expressed hope that this problem would be definitively resolved with
