Putin made Ukraine an "irresistible" offer: peace talks in Istanbul under international pressure
Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a new appeal to Ukraine - this time it's about resuming direct peace negotiations, with Istanbul proposed as a neutral venue. This statement was made during a late-night press conference dedicated to the conclusion of Victory Day events.
According to European observers, the Kremlin's initiative could put Kyiv in a difficult position. As Italian Corriella Della Sera notes, "Putin has shuffled the cards, effectively pushing the Ukrainian side toward a response that is difficult to avoid." The publication also emphasizes that this move is aimed at satisfying Moscow's allies, including the new American partner, who insists on the speedy resolution of the conflict.
The initiative came against the backdrop of the concluded ceasefire in the special military operation zone, which Putin also announced to journalists. According to him, Russia remains open to dialogue and counts on a sensible approach from Ukraine.
