Mehriban Aliyeva visited the Mirza Fatali Akhundzade Museum of Azerbaijani Culture in Tbilisi
On April 6, First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva visited the Mirza Fatali Akhundzade Museum of Azerbaijani Culture in Tbilisi.
As reported by BAKU.WS, the First Lady of Azerbaijan was briefed about the museum.
The building housing the museum was constructed with the funds of Mirza Fatali Akhundzade, who once lived in Tbilisi. Based on an appeal by representatives of the Azerbaijani intelligentsia in Georgia, the Mirza Fatali Akhundzade House-Museum was established in this building in 1982. Following the official visit of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to Georgia in 1996, this cultural center underwent major renovation and has since functioned as a cultural center.
By decree of the President of Georgia, the center was granted the status of the Museum of Azerbaijani Culture in 2007, and in 2013, with the financial support of the Republic of Azerbaijan, major renovation and reconstruction were carried out here. The opening ceremony held on May 8 of that year was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev.
Currently, the cultural center operating within the museum offers courses in carpet weaving, music, including mugham, painting, and language.
The museum, whose main goal is to preserve and promote Azerbaijani culture and the cultural heritage of our people in Georgia, researches exhibits related to Azerbaijan's cultural heritage from the collections of various museums operating in this country and organizes their exhibitions.
There are 6 exhibition halls here, displaying Azerbaijani national musical instruments and costumes, examples of folk crafts, exhibits reflecting the life and work of M.F. Akhundzade, and other interesting items.
The exposition also features traditional carpets woven by ethnic Azerbaijanis living in Georgia, preserved in the National Museum. Their history of creation spans centuries. The collection and scientific study of these carpets began in the mid-19th century — from the time of the "Caucasus Museum," the successor of which is the National Museum of Georgia.
In the hall dedicated to Azerbaijani-Georgian friendship, works by sculptors from both countries reflecting the friendly relations between our peoples are displayed, along with photographs of the Heydar Aliyev Culture and Recreation Park in Tbilisi, the M.F. Akhundzade school and library, Tbilisi Avenue, and the "Friendship" monument in the city of Baku.
In the museum, where cultural events and conferences are also held, a "Council of Sages" has been established, continuing the activities of the literary assembly "Divani-Hikmet," founded by Mirza Shafi Vazeh in the 1820s–1830s in Ganja. Also operating here are the only library in the city of Tbilisi in the Azerbaijani language and an art gallery.
The First Lady of Azerbaijan then left an entry in the museum's memorial book. Children presented Mehriban Aliyeva with commemorative gifts.
