Ilham Aliyev participated in the opening of a water treatment plant in the city of Yevlakh

On June 23, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev participated in the opening of a water treatment plant using sand filtration technology in the city of Yevlakh.
As reported by BAKU.WS, the chairman of the State Water Resources Agency Zaur Mikailov informed President Ilham Aliyev about the project for the reconstruction of water supply and sewerage systems in the city of Yevlakh.
It was noted that taking into account the prospective development until 2035, this project is designed to improve drinking water supply and sewerage services for 70,000 residents. According to the project, the construction of a drinking water treatment plant with a capacity of 20,000 cubic meters, a 139-kilometer drinking water network, about 13,000 subscriber connections, a 115-kilometer wastewater network, and 5 pumping stations is planned in the city of Yevlakh. In order to treat and discharge wastewater that will be generated in the city, the construction of a treatment plant with a capacity of 12,500 cubic meters per day is also envisaged.
In accordance with the project, to ensure uninterrupted supply of drinking water to the city, a treatment plant using rapid sand filtration technology with a capacity of 20,000 cubic meters per day has been built on the bank of the Kura River over the past period. 16 filters have been installed here, and two reservoirs with a total capacity of 2,500 cubic meters have been built to collect clean water after the processing. Special pumps for disinfection and backwashing, a transformer and a generator providing the complex with electricity have been installed at the treatment facility. In addition, a water supply distribution network with a length of 86 kilometers has been built, and 4,230 houses equipped with meters have been connected to it.
It should be noted that the drinking water supply and sewerage systems of the city of Yevlakh were created in the 1950s-1960s. Initially, the city's water supply sources were sub-artesian wells and the Kura River. The capabilities of the 15 sub-artesian wells currently in operation did not meet the needs. Although current and capital repairs were repeatedly carried out on the two main pipelines with a total length of 27 kilometers laid to the city from the well zone, they did not provide stable water supply. Water taken from the Kura River by pumps was supplied to subscribers after primary treatment. The existing water supply network in the city with a length of 191 kilometers did not meet the demand due to many years of operation and dilapidation.
In recent years, important projects have been implemented throughout the country aimed at meeting the population's needs for clean drinking water. During this period, a Central Laboratory and 9 regional laboratories were created in Baku. As a result of the work done, losses in the country's drinking water supply over the past 20 years have decreased from 62 to 40 percent. 8.1 thousand kilometers of lines for the discharge of sewage and rainwater have been built. 28 wastewater treatment plants with a total capacity of 250 thousand cubic meters per day have been installed in cities, districts, and settlements. Five such installations have been commissioned in Baku and on the Absheron Peninsula. In addition, the Jeyranbatan complex of ultrafiltration water treatment plants has been built.
