Hikmet Hajiyev: Armenia is conducting propaganda against the judicial process in Azerbaijan

During the trial in Azerbaijan of persons accused of committing serious crimes, including crimes against humanity, significant facts are being revealed about Armenia's state responsibility for military aggression and occupation, as well as the responsibility of its military-political leadership.
This was written by Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev on his X social media page.
He noted that the process causes serious concern among Armenia's political leadership and prompts it to launch a new propaganda campaign against the judicial proceedings, interfering in Azerbaijan's internal affairs.
"It is hoped that Armenia, among other international legal obligations, being a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC), will recognize its responsibility for acts of aggression, war crimes and other serious crimes committed in this context," Hajiyev wrote.
According to him, instead of conducting unnecessary propaganda against the trial, the Armenian government should cooperate with Azerbaijan to facilitate the restoration of transitional justice and establish lasting peace in the region.
"A sincere commitment to peace and the beginning of new relations with Azerbaijan would be demonstrated, among other things, by Armenia's willingness to acknowledge its responsibility and extradite those accused of war crimes, especially those currently hiding in Armenia's territory," he emphasized.
However, Hajiyev noted, "if Armenia thinks its crimes will be forgotten over time, it is greatly mistaken."
The Presidential Assistant suggested that Armenia's political leadership, its judicial authorities, and international partners familiarize themselves with the "Report on War Crimes in the Occupied Territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Responsibility of the Republic of Armenia" published in 2019, which was distributed as an official document of the UN General Assembly and Security Council.
"Just as Azerbaijan successfully suppressed Armenia's military aggression through military-political means, today it demonstrates unique judicial practice in ensuring the rights of innocent victims of aggression and holding accountable individuals and states accused of military aggression, crimes against humanity, and war crimes," he said, noting that this judicial experience will become an important precedent for the international community in preventing future military aggressions, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.
