If the persecution of Azerbaijanis in Russia becomes widespread, it could damage bilateral relations.

This was stated to Report by Milli Mejlis deputy Mushfig Jafarli.

"As a result of the operation conducted on June 27 by the Federal Security Service of Russia in the residences of members of the Azerbaijani Safarov family in Yekaterinburg, two people were killed and 9 were detained.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan noted that the incident represents an "unacceptable act of violence" against Azerbaijanis.

The Russian side disseminated information that law enforcement agencies carried out searches and arrests in connection with some criminal case. The conduct of these searches and arrests must first and foremost comply with the law. The behavior demonstrated by Russian law enforcement agencies toward our compatriots is deliberate violence. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has already openly expressed its position on this matter. A representative of the Russian embassy was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, where Baku's strong protest was expressed to him," the deputy recalled.

"I think that Russia should immediately take an objective approach to this issue. Otherwise, these events will have a very negative impact on relations between the two countries," he emphasized.

According to him, he assesses what happened in Russia as an act of violence: "I consider this violence against our compatriots. Azerbaijanis who faced the attack by FSB officers also stated that they were tortured. If the persecution of Azerbaijanis in Russia becomes widespread, it could damage bilateral relations."
