President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky approved a decree on the country's withdrawal from the Ottawa Convention, which prohibits the production and use of anti-personnel mines.

This was reported by Verkhovna Rada deputy Roman Kostenko on his social media. According to him, the head of state enacted the corresponding decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

At the moment, the text of the decree has not yet been published on the official website of the president.

The Ottawa Convention, signed on December 3, 1997, and entered into force on March 1, 1999, prohibits the use, stockpiling, production, and transfer of anti-personnel mines. The document also obliges participating countries to destroy all existing stockpiles of these weapons. To date, 163 states have joined the agreement.

Earlier, the Baltic countries withdrew from the convention. In addition, the parliaments of Poland and Finland also expressed support for the denunciation of the agreement.
