Azerbaijan expressed gratitude to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for its attention to the investigation of the AZAL Embraer 190 aircraft crash that occurred on December 25 last year near Aktau, and for the support provided to Kazakhstan conducting the investigation.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, this was stated during a meeting of the delegation headed by Deputy Minister Elmin Mamedov with ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar and the organization's Regional Director for Europe and North Atlantic Nicolas Rallo in Bern, Switzerland.

The Azerbaijani side emphasized the importance of conducting the investigation by specialized and experienced expert bodies. ICAO reminded that a detailed and impartial investigation is one of the key requirements of the Chicago Convention (Annex 13).

The organization reaffirmed its commitment to supporting member countries in complying with global aviation safety standards.

The meeting also reached an agreement on expanding cooperation between ICAO, the State Civil Aviation Agency, and Azerbaijan's aviation industry.

Baku once again declared its support for ICAO's policy regarding the implementation of international standards for flight safety, aviation security, and environmental protection.

Recall that on December 25, an Embraer aircraft of Azerbaijan Airlines, traveling from Baku to Grozny, crashed near the Kazakhstani city of Aktau. There were 62 passengers on board, including 37 citizens of Azerbaijan, 16 from Russia, 6 from Kazakhstan, and 3 from Kyrgyzstan, as well as five crew members. As a result of the accident, 38 people died, and 29 people survived, including three children.

According to preliminary data, the plane crashed as a result of physical and technical external interference that occurred in Russian airspace over Grozny.
