Azerbaijan's relations with neighboring countries are stable and continue to develop in a spirit of good neighborliness.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Report, this was stated by Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev at the CAMCA 2026 Regional Forum in Baku.

According to him, sanctions against Iran create serious difficulties for Azerbaijan from an economic and business standpoint, having a negative impact not only on Iran but also on Azerbaijan and other neighboring countries.

Hajiyev emphasized that Azerbaijan is guided by the principles of sovereignty, independence, and strategic autonomy in its foreign policy.

"For us, this is a strategic asset, and we paid a high price for gaining independence and preserving sovereignty," he noted.

According to him, Azerbaijan's relations with other states are built on the principles of transparency and mutual respect.

"Principles remain principles. We see the erosion of international law, but despite this, Azerbaijan continues to adhere to its own principles and approaches in interstate relations," the presidential assistant stated.

He also noted that Azerbaijan's foreign policy is inclusive in nature.

"Our relations with one party do not mean that we must oppose another. That is why Azerbaijan maintains good relations with Israel. At the same time, we do not abandon our principles," Hajiyev said.

According to him, Azerbaijan supports the establishment of a Palestinian state with its capital in East Jerusalem.

"Our Israeli friends also know Azerbaijan's position," he added.

Hajiyev also emphasized that Azerbaijan proceeds from the principles of good neighborliness and non-interference in the internal affairs of states.

"There cannot be a situation in which any actions against another state would be carried out from the sovereign territory of Azerbaijan," he stated.
