34 years have passed since the "Dashalti" operation
Today marks the 33rd anniversary of the unsuccessful "Dashalti" operation of the Azerbaijani army (January 25-26, 1992).
200 soldiers from the Shikhov battalion were allocated for the operation, which aimed to liberate the village of the same name. The troops were led by former Defense Minister Tajeddin Mehdiyev.
According to the first plan, a platoon of servicemen was supposed to pass through the village of Nebilar, climb to the height of Gizilgaya, in order to cut the road leading from Dashalti to the village of Signakh from there. According to the second plan, it was planned to block the road leading from Dashalti to the village of Shushakend.
Unfavorable weather conditions, lack of communication between units, leakage of classified information, as well as the betrayal of guides led to the unsuccessful completion of the operation. The platoon that entered Dashalti was ambushed. Other units also suffered losses and were forced to retreat.
During the unsuccessful operation, the Azerbaijani army lost 90 people. The Armenians also suffered significant losses - 80 enemy soldiers were killed during the battle.
On November 9, 2020, the Azerbaijani army liberated the village of Dashalti, which had been under the control of Armenian armed formations since 1991.
President Ilham Aliyev visited the village of Dashalti on March 16, 2021. The head of state said that our military passed through this settlement, overcame the rocks and entered Shusha. On the same day, the President of Azerbaijan gave instructions to restore the village.
On November 7, 2021, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva laid the foundation for a mosque in Dashalti.
