Top students fail tests while C-students score high marks: Baku residents on assessment problems
In Azerbaijan, there is a serious gap between students' current academic performance in schools and their actual results on graduation and entrance exams.
Statistics confirm that many graduates who had high or average grades in school fail to cope with exam tasks and do not score the expected points. At the same time, there are frequent cases where students with average academic performance unexpectedly demonstrate high results on tests. Another hotly debated topic is that some students, despite years of study, fail to master basic reading and writing skills by the time they finish school.
Education experts note that such facts point to systemic problems and require an in-depth analysis of the educational process itself, as well as a revision of school assessment mechanisms.
A Baku TV film crew gathered the opinions of capital residents on this issue.
One of the respondents expressed the view that school grades are often biased and inflated due to outside interference.
Another capital resident linked the root of the problem to the excessive bureaucratization of teachers' work, noting that teachers are simply not allowed to conduct lessons properly, being burdened with endless paperwork and reports.
