Today is World Laughter Day

The fact that April 1st is traditionally celebrated every year as World Laughter Day is far from coincidental. The main reason for this lies in the fact that people simply cannot imagine their lives without laughter.

"Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face" — these words are perhaps the most accurate assessment that people have given to this spiritual and psychological value.

Laughter Day originated in France about 500 years ago. In those times, the French celebrated New Year precisely on April 1st. However, the French king decided to move the New Year celebration to January 1st. The people were unhappy with the royal decree. As a sign of protest, people staged all sorts of actions: they invited the king's close associates to feasts but did not show up themselves, spread false news, and ridiculed the king's subjects in every possible way. However, the monarch remained steadfast and did not change his decision.

Years went by. The people gradually got used to celebrating New Year on January 1st. Nevertheless, April 1st was not forgotten. Recalling the jokes and pranks of that day, people decided to celebrate April 1st as Laughter Day.

Soon this tradition spread all over the world. On this day, people play pranks on each other, and no one takes offense. Of course, everyone tries not to be fooled on April 1st. But only a few succeed in this.
