Today is the day of Ashura

June 25 marks the day of Ashura in Azerbaijan.

Ashura falls on the 10th day of the month of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

In Azerbaijan, blood donation drives are traditionally held on this day. This year, the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, together with the Caucasus Muslims Board, is also organizing a large-scale blood donation campaign.

Related events will be held with the organization of the Ministry of Health, the Agency for State Support of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), the Youth Foundation, the Management Union of Medical Territorial Units (TƏBİB), the Republican Blood Bank, the Azerbaijan Institute of Theology, the Foundation for the Promotion of Spiritual Values, the Baku Theological College, the National NGO Forum, the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society, and the Union of Volunteer Organizations of Azerbaijan. Volunteers and members of the public will also participate in the campaign.

The collected blood will be used to treat people suffering from hemophilia, thalassemia, and other diseases.
