Climate change and abnormally warm weather during the winter months in recent years raise many questions - not only of an ecological and medical nature, but also related to geological processes. Some believe that a sudden rise in air temperature in winter could be a precursor to an earthquake.

In February 2026, we are also observing weather uncharacteristic for Azerbaijan: for example, temperatures of up to 23 degrees Celsius are expected tomorrow.

The head of the seismology department at the Republican Seismological Service Center, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences Tair Mammadli, noted in a comment for Oxu.Az that earthquakes typically occur at a depth of several kilometers.

"Processes occurring on the Earth's surface are not the main cause of earthquakes. That is, the mechanisms that cause underground tremors are completely different, and weather conditions have no influence on them," the specialist emphasized.
