The Coordination Center for Organ Donation and Transplantation of the Ministry of Health of the Azerbaijan Republic received information about the diagnosis of brain death in a patient being treated at the Sabunchi Medical Center.

As reported by BAKU.WS, this was stated in a joint information release from the Ministry of Health of the Azerbaijan Republic and the Central Clinic.

"The Coordination Center promptly organized and coordinated the process of organ donation and transplantation.

After confirming the diagnosis of brain death, the deceased's family showed a high example of humanism and gave consent for organ donation. Thus, for the first time in the Caucasus, a heart transplantation from a deceased donor was performed.

The heart transplant operation was successfully conducted at the Central Clinic by a specialized medical team led by the chief physician, Professor Kamran Musayev. The heart of the deceased donor was transplanted to a resident of the Tovuz district, born in 2006.

The Ministry of Health of the Azerbaijan Republic expresses deep gratitude to the donor's relatives for their noble act, as well as appreciation to the medical specialists who professionally performed their work, and wishes them continued success," the information states.
