A cardiologist warned about the dangers of smoking a cigarette immediately after waking up
The morning cigarette is considered one of the most dangerous habits for smokers, which is why it is advisable to delay the first puff after waking up by at least one hour. This was explained by cardiologist Valeria Bonadykova.
As reported by BAKU.WS citing "Gazeta.Ru," after sleep, the body naturally increases cortisol levels — a hormone that helps a person wake up. If a cigarette is smoked at this moment, nicotine additionally stimulates the release of adrenaline and noradrenaline, placing increased strain on the heart and blood vessels.
According to the Russian expert, studies show that people who light up in the first minutes after getting up are significantly more likely to develop lung cancer and myocardial infarction. Early morning smoking also indicates a stronger nicotine dependence.
The specialist noted that nicotine constricts blood vessels, raises blood pressure, and forces the heart to work harder. In addition, the first morning cigarette disrupts the protective mechanisms of the respiratory tract, contributing to the characteristic smoker's cough.
For those who are not yet ready to give up the harmful habit, the doctor recommends first drinking a glass of warm water, having breakfast, or taking a short walk, and postponing the cigarette for at least 60 minutes. In cases of severe dependence, it is worth consulting a specialist to select nicotine replacement therapy and regularly undergoing heart and lung examinations.
