The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) will open a representative office in Uzbekistan.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the press service of the President of Uzbekistan, Head of State Shavkat Mirziyoyev on May 13 received SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf, as well as BP top managers Ariel Flores and Giovanni Cristofoli, who arrived in the country to participate in the "Energy Week of Uzbekistan – 2026" forum.

"The parties discussed issues of expanding mutually beneficial cooperation. The successful cooperation in the energy sector was noted with satisfaction. SOCAR is a partner of Uzbekistan in the implementation of the hydrocarbon field development project on the Ustyurt Plateau. A decision was made to open a SOCAR representative office in Uzbekistan. High praise was given to British Petroleum's joining of this large-scale project," the statement said.

During the meeting, the parties emphasized the importance of advancing joint projects in the oil and gas sector, exploration, production and deep processing of hydrocarbon raw materials, establishing long-term supplies of oil and petroleum products, as well as in the field of training industry professionals.

In addition, Rovshan Najaf, who is also the chairman of the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan, thanked Mirziyoyev for his assistance in the joint preparation for hosting the FIFA U-20 Youth World Cup in Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan in 2027.
