Presidents of Ukraine and the United States Vladimir Zelensky and Donald Trump held two telephone conversations in different formats. They discussed, in particular, ceasefire and US sanctions against Russia.

As BAKU.WS reports with reference to "RBC-Ukraine", the Ukrainian leader said this during a briefing.

"I had two calls with President Trump today in different formats. The first call was, we talked about what is very important for Ukraine. This is a ceasefire, these are, in principle, unconditional things that we discussed both in Istanbul and constantly before that," Zelensky said.

The second topic of discussion was the United States' readiness to move toward more serious sanctions against Russia. Zelensky asked Trump to think about this and apply sanctions if Russia does not support the cessation of the war and does not want to end the war.

"Third, I asked him before his conversation with Putin not to make decisions about Ukraine without us. These are fundamental and very important things for us. Well, and we agreed that we will have contact after his conversation with Putin. We just had a fairly long conversation, I think more than an hour," said the President of Ukraine.

During the second call, Zelensky and Trump added to the conversation French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

"We had such a conversation. The conversation was long, different in character. I understand that President Trump believes that direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia are most important. This is his position, he demonstrated it. We talked about this for a long time. In the end, he believes that the Russian side will give appropriate signals about how they see a ceasefire could happen and the next steps in their vision," added the head of state.
