YouTube started requiring age verification from users from CIS countries
YouTube has expanded the practice of mandatory age verification to users from CIS countries. The platform has started to massively display notifications requiring age confirmation when attempting to view content with age restrictions.
As reported by BAKU.WS, according to the Telegram channel "Durov's Code".
To pass the verification, the service offers several verification options: uploading a scan of an identity document (passport or driver's license), a selfie for automatic age assessment, as well as confirmation through a bank card or email address. It is noted that during the verification process, data may be transferred to third-party contractors, including the VerifyMy service, for cross-referencing data on other platforms.
According to users, age verification requirements are already being recorded on accounts registered in European countries and Belarus. Previously, such measures began to be implemented for users from Western countries at the end of September.
Experts associate the tightening of procedures with regulatory initiatives in the UK and EU countries, where laws requiring internet platforms to conduct strict age verification are being discussed and adopted.
