Trump: Strikes on Iran saved the world from nuclear apocalypse
The military operation against Iran, according to US President Donald Trump, helped prevent World War III.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to RIA Novosti, he made this statement at a briefing in the White House.
According to the American leader, the refusal to conduct the operation could have led to a nuclear conflict, which would have eventually escalated into a global war with catastrophic consequences. He noted that in such a case, the consequences could have been devastating for the entire world.
Trump also stated that without intervention from Washington, Iran would have allegedly obtained nuclear weapons and could have used them against Israel and other Middle Eastern countries.
Meanwhile, the US and Israeli military operation against Iran has been ongoing for the third week. The sides are exchanging strikes, while Tel Aviv states that their goal is to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Washington, in turn, has threatened to destroy Iran's military capabilities and called for a regime change in the country. Tehran, for its part, emphasizes its readiness to defend itself and states that it currently sees no grounds for resuming negotiations.
