The production designer of Harry Potter films has died
In Great Britain, production designer Stuart Craig, known for his work on all "Harry Potter" and "Fantastic Beasts" films, has died. This was reported by his colleague, art director Neil Lamont, on the British Film Designers Guild website. Mr. Lamont noted that Stuart Craig died after a prolonged battle with Parkinson's disease at the age of 83.
Stuart Craig was born on April 14, 1942, in Norwich, Norfolk County, England. He began his career in the late 1960s - early 1970s and gained recognition as one of the world's leading production designers.
Mr. Craig was nominated for an Oscar 11 times and won the award three times for the films "Gandhi" (1983), "Dangerous Liaisons" (1989), and "The English Patient" (1997). Among his other notable projects are "The Elephant Man," "Chaplin," "Cry Freedom," "The Secret Garden," as well as the films "Notting Hill," "The Avengers," and "Superman." A special place in his career is occupied by the design of the franchises about the magical world of Harry Potter and "Fantastic Beasts."
